Welcome to bmcoforum

The bmcoforum is an international non-profit organisation designed to foster the mass market for mobile media consumption. Therefore bmcoforum optimizes the technology mix and business models and brings together players from all parts of the media delivery value chain.

In 2010, the bmcoforum focuses on business models for traffic off-loading from mobile networks to broadcast and fixed (including WiFi) delivery networks as well as on mobile-fixed integration scenarios for media delivery (MobiFix).

  • South Africa: Multichoice awarded DVB-H licence (2010 09 10)

    Multichoice pay-TV unit has been awarded the country's second mobile TV licence by the communications regulator ICASA. More

  • USA: Mobile500 Alliance founded (2010 09 09)

    In a bid to accelerate the adoption of mobile television, 30 broadcasting companies have set up the Mobile500 Alliance, representing some 346 full power stations broadcasting in 167 markets. More

  • Japan: Regulator favours home-grown ISDB-Tmm (2010 09 09)

    A goverment advisory panel favours NTT DocoMo's ISDB-Tmm mobile broadcasting technology. Japanese legislators are expected to formally endorse NTT DoCoMo on the panle's recommendation. More

  • Jamaica: LIME to roll out DVB-H (2010 08 29)

    LIME will be rolling out a DVB-H based mobile TV service

    in Kingston and St Catherine by December, to be expanded nationwide by early 2011. More

  • ABI Research: Mobile Network Off-loading study (2010 08 19)

    The ABI Research study "Mobile Network Off-loading" explores the market drivers and end-user demand for each mobile data offloading technology, including an end-to-end cost comparison for alternative data paths. It closely examines the technologies available to augment an existing 3G network. More

  • Japan: Decision On Mobile Broadcasting Service postponed (2010 08 19)

    The Communications Ministry postponed deciding on the new network of base stations for a mobile broadcasting service. Instead, the ministry asked the Radio Regulatory Council, an advisory panel to the minister, to make a decision. More

  • MobiTV: Display size matters in Mobile TV (2010 08 13)

    The bigger a mobile device's screen is, the longer viewers will spend watching mobile TV services on the device, according to a report from mobile TV service provider MobiTV. More

  • Ericsson: Global mobile data traffic tripled in last year (2010 08 13)

    Global mobile data traffic has nearly tripled in the last year, growing more than 10 times faster than voice. Ericsson predicted that mobile data traffic could continue to double annually through 2020. More

  • Kenya: Reach for mobile TV to expand (2010 08 13)

    DSTV Mobile plans to expand its Kenya DVB-H network to cover Kisumi, Nakuru and Eldoret. So far it covers Nairobi and Mombasa. More
